Assistant Professor of Linguistics at the University of Nicosia, Dr Georgios P. Georgiou, has received significant recognition from the prestigious Scholar GPS, an AI-driven platform that evaluates over 30 million researchers from more than 55,000 institutions worldwide based on the impact of their publications. Dr Georgiou is the Associate Head of the Department of Languages and Literature, Director of the Phonetics Lab, and Coordinator of the MA program "Teaching Greek to Speakers of Other Languages."
Scholar GPS ranks Dr Georgiou in the top 0.46% of researchers globally in the broader field of Linguistics, placing him 167th out of 35,868 researchers. Dr Georgiou’s research focuses on speech and language acquisition in both typical and atypical populations, aiming to maximize learning outcomes and develop diagnostic tools for communication disorders. His work employs various methodologies, including acoustic analysis of speech sounds, behavioral, psychometric, and neuropsychological tests, as well as the application of machine and deep learning algorithms. He has published over 60 contributions in high-impact journals, edited volumes, and conference proceedings. In 2023, he was honored with the prestigious Cyprus Research Award – Young Researcher in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences, and, in 2024, he was elected Fellow of the Young Academy of Europe in recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements, as noted by the award committee.
